Session 1

God promises the world we all want

Session 1
In the bible, God promises the world we all want.
Revelations 21:1-5

We know this promise is true because in the gospels we see how Jesus gave us a glimpse of God’s new world- the world we all want - as he heals the sick and raises the dead.
Mark 5:21-43

Session 3

We have spoiled God’s good world

Session 3
God made the world by speaking his word, and it was a good world.
‘God saw all that he had made, and it was very good’ Genesis 1:31
It was the world we all want- a place of beauty, security and plenty.

The first people, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God by eating fruit he told them not to eat. People became enemies of God and were separated from him.
Genesis 3:17-24

Adam and Eve rejected God’s rule and chose to live their own way. This bought sin in to the world. Sin has lead to the brokenness and suffering that is in the world today. Our sin has spoiled God’s world.

However God promises someone who will put right what we have done, and who will crush Satan.
Genesis 3:14-15

Session 5

We cannot create God’s new world

Session 5
The bible tells us how Abraham’s family prospered and became a great nation called Israel.
Nehemiah 9:7-8.

God gave Israel a land.
‘You made their sons as numerous as the stars in the sky, and you bought them into the land that you told their fathers to enter and possess.’ Nehemiah 9:23

God also gave his people a law that protected them from cruelty and made sure everyone was provided for. It was a rule of blessing, freedom and rest. But God’s people could not create his new world. They still did not trust or obey God. They followed false gods and cruel practices. God’s people were exiled into Babylon and the land was captured.

But God promises he will put it right.
Ezekiel 36:22-38

Session 7

Christians are God’s people waiting for God’s new world

Session 7
After Jesus rose again he went to heaven.
Acts 1:6-11

The bible tells us that we he will come back again and will create God’s new world. Jesus invites us to be part of this new world and sends us out as witnesses to tell all the nations the good news. God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us.
Acts 2:38

We become part of God’s people through faith and repentance. When we become part of God’s people we are forgiven for our rebellion. What was promise to Abraham is for us. Instead of being God’s enemies we can know God and we can look forward to God’s new world- the world we all want.

Session 2

Jesus shows us God’s new world

Session 2
In the gospels we see that Jesus had power over nature, over the spirit world, over sickness and over death.
Mark 4:35 -5:20

Therefore Jesus has the power to make God’s new world- the world we all want.

But Jesus said it was necessary for him to die so we could enjoy that world.
‘Jesus began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.’ Mark 8v31

Session 4

God promises a new world

Session 4
After sin was bought into the world, people became enemies of God. But in Genesis, God makes a promise to Abraham, a descendent of Adam and Eve, that he will make him into a great nation of people who know God. Instead of being enemies of God, we can be God’s friends.

Genesis 12:2

God also promises Abraham a land. Though we spoiled God’s good world, God promises a land of plenty and security.
Genesis 12:7

God also promises that blessing will come through Abraham’s family. God’s promised rescuer will be one of Abraham’s descendants.

Session 6

We can enjoy God’s new world because of Jesus

Session 6
The bible shows us how we have become enemies of God and spoiled his world. When God gave his people a new land and law, they continued to sin and rebel against God. They could not create God’s new world.

But God promises a new world that we glimpse through Jesus.

Yet in the gospels we read how Jesus died.
Mark 15:22-39

But the death of Jesus was no ordinary death. Jesus died for us. We deserved to be punished for our sin and for the way we have spoiled God’s world. But Jesus took our punishment so that we are free to enjoy God’s world.

In the gospels we read that Jesus rose again.
Mark 16:1-8

God raised Jesus, showing the death is defeated. Jesus dealt with our sin, and has overcome death.
